Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Shampoo and Conditioner Review

This brand was one I tried as I was just beginning to venture into the natural beauty product world in hopes of improving my hypothyroid symptoms. Reducing my exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals is the goal.  So, I decided to ditch the stuff filled with synthetic chemicals for a more natural option.

Shea Moisture is available at several big box retailers, drug stores, online, and even at some beauty stores. The price point is reasonable at around $10 per product, depending on where you find it. The scent is fruity and clean. I believe it contains an essential oil blend of coconut and hibiscus, hence the name.  You can also find it on my Amazon store:  http://astore.amazon.com/mycrnoli-20

The shampoo makes a nice lather. The conditioner is difficult to find, which is a drawback for me since I’m adamant that I must have the matching conditioner to any shampoo that I use. This is for curly hair, so I only use it when I plan on wearing my hair curly/wavy. It can leave a bit of an oily residue, so I have to make sure that I rinse my hair thoroughly and usually with hot water. This was not an issue back when I was coloring my hair because it was very damaged from all the blond hair color being used on it. Now that I’m no longer coloring, my hair is healthier and not as dry. If you have damaged or dry hair, I think this product line will work for you as well as it did for me.

My hair is naturally wavy, so when I wear it this way, I typically comb it out, scrunch it, let it air dry for a while, and then sleep on it damp. This gives me the best results. Depending on how much time I have when I’m getting ready to leave the house, I may curl only a few pieces of hair around my face and the ends, or I’ll curl all of my hair for a more polished look. Occasionally, I don’t have time to do anything to it, and that looks fine, too.

I can usually wear this look for 2 to 4 days, depending on how much I work out, sweat, or how my hormone levels are (I tend to get oilier during ovulation). Overall, I’m happy with this product and would recommend it for anyone with dry, frizzy hair that also tends to be unruly.
